Sunday Night. 5.19.13

The last time I paid attention to this blog was September 2012. I don’t mean to neglect it. Here’s my attempt to revitalize my blog with a long post about what’s happened since then.

A few days after that last blog post, I had a table at my first major craft show. The BUST Craftacular at Maker Faire.

This was how my table was set up. I had tons of goodies for sale and did fairly well. It helped me realize what attracted people and what didn’t. A few weeks after the show I received a email from FAB.com. They had checked out my stuff at the fair and was hoping to collaborate together for a flash sale. Of course I said yes!

The best selling item was my I LIKE PICKLES tote bags. I had a great time designing the packaging for them.

In addition to selling items I had on hand, I had also created exclusive holiday cards to be sold. They are still available for super cheap at my etsy!

I distinctly remember this time of the year I was super stressed out. Following the FAB sale I had a art gallery show at work that I had to create 3 pieces of work for. I originally wanted to work with felt but opted for digital paintings since that was all I had time for. Here’s a look at one of the paintings in postcard form.

Jump into 2013 and I got busy creating graphics for Chinese New Year. This year is the year of the snake and it took me months of planning to make the perfect snake character. I actually even had time to create traditional red envelopes.

And finally these past few weeks I’ve been playing around with some mediums other than paper. Rubber stamps, acrylic and wood galore!

Xiao Fu in the Summer.

Guess what this lady has been up to?

Woot! Wearable art! I’ve been developing my brand and characters these past 6 months and I’m super excited to reveal this. This is the first new product of mine in a while and I am so happy with the results. It is also a new medium of mine to play with so look out for more in the future. Also notice the new logo. A website is in the works as well as possibly some PVC figures. Crossing my fingers that the brain juice will continue to work and get inspired. ^-^

The design on this shirt was based off of a tiger plushie I made 2 years ago for a art gallery show. It was inspired by my first trip to China with my family and I saw all these amazing folk art. Xiao Fu is in the same set of designs as Boba pig below. They will be an entire line of animal people as well. 😀

BOOM BOOM BOOM BA BA

Wow, hey my views are up, the highest for a while now. Of course its nothing compared to the sites that have ad sales and such but its still pretty surprising. Apparently there is a massive search for Takashi Murakami today and people was bounced to my site. 😀 Woo!

So, I finally made a carbonmade portfolio until I finally get enough time to code/script my own website with my own domain. For now, its a generic xxxxx.carbonmade.com website.

I don’t have all my work up because with a free account they only allow 50 pictures! That’s too little, there’s no way I can show all my graphic design and illustration work along with my handcrafted items. I’m already up to 45 pictures and I feel like I hardly have anything up.

That’s a preview of how it looks like. I know, its so generic looking but there aren’t may customization options for that site. You have 2 colors (black/white) to choose from and 2 fonts (serifed/san serifed) and that’s about it. Suck’s I know. But do go check it out when you get a chance and of course spread the wordddd.

So, I’ve been complaining for a while that my wood hasn’t come in yet, well, they’re here. But now I’m too busy to make stamps from them. There sitting in the corner collecting dust while I work on my portfolio.

And anime lovers, specifically SHOJO BEAT lovers, Keep your eyes open for a little feature on ME! Yay, some of my handcrafted items got picked and is featured in one of their sections. I don’t know which one yet. There’s a little interview in the May 2009 issue. I haven’t picked up a copy but the editor told me the May issue is coming out soon. Perhaps I’ll go to B&N tomorrow to see if its out yet. 😀

I finally did it. After much procrastination I finally got myself some Moo Postcards done. I can’t wait until I’m able to smell that crisp newly printed goods.

I’ve been slacking lately. I need to catch up with my homework, work work and designing more characters. I can’t rely on working off the dessert midgets forever.

My health has been declining lately as well. I don’t know what’s causing all this. I don’t feel stressed so it can’t be that. But, I’ve put off the doctor’s visit for too long. I made an appointment and I’m going this Friday. I pray that I’m healthy and what’s happening is merely a allergic reaction.

PROMO of the WEEK: Even though I get nothing from it.

Thursday night I went to a advanced screening of SEXDRIVE. It is so funny, so you get a chance, go catch it. But, it isn’t for people who can’t take perverse jokes and such. Seeing how I am a perverse joker, I loved it.

I don’t get anything from this promo but I did get a wicked hand held fan and a too tiny tshirt for me before the screening. But still, I got something right? haah Look at their website and see the dancing donut.

This is sad. Real Sad.

A few minutes ago I was slurping up possibly 3 week old spaghetti and I find it quite good. I was on a semi diet of non soda, candy, junk and such for 2 weeks now and I just broke it by eatting some Low fat Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough ice cream. It is low fat but still, all that chocolate and cow urine goodness. Ain’t no good for me. My life is actually busy now that I have no such thing as a life anymore. It’s my senior year and I have to suck it up and live as a design zombie. No resturant outings, no bars, no shopping, no nothing. 24/7 in front of the computer clicking away. It’s so boring like this.

3:00 Thursday Afternoon UPDATE

Ok. It’s my day off today. Or rather I gave myself a day off. So, I’m just going to go and type whenever I feel like it today. This might be updated 20 times by the day ends because I’m a needy biatch craving attention. hahah I’m just kidding.

But, the reason why I logged back on is because I need a break. I’m constanly bombarded with my two of the clients from the freelance projects I’m working on. I’m going to freak. I had 5 phone calls from the first client within the last hour. I’m getting lots of changes through email from the second one. And I still have homework to do which I haven’t touched yet. I also still have the task of going back to school to find out if anyone stole my screen from the silkscreen lab. If someone did, I will take my revenge upon whatever new screen there is that’s lying there for my picking. Oh say’s John right there. No worries, I’ll just tape over it. HAH, too bad for whoever that is.

UPDATE 10:47

I decide to take a little walk outside to only be interupted by another call. It’s her again. There are more changes. I’m about to blow. I’m only charging around 200 for this. Why have I gone through 10+ revisions for that. I rush home to sit my ass in front of my MAC and I see my sister on. I stop and worry about the countless hours I will not make that chair my home. She tells me she will call me at around 8 tommorrow morning. Damn, its my day off. That’s too early. But I say yes. Why am I a coward? I have a bit of heartburn left over from last night and its freezing cold. This is a sad day. A sad day indeed.

Chipped Teeth and Champagne

Yes, I chipped my tooth. The big tooth in the back of my right side to be exact. Now, its a bothersome pointed edge slicing the side of my tongue at every movement. I have weak teeth. I need to drink more milk. Perhaps chocolate milk will make it better. heheh. Yeah, that will do.

As casually mentioned in the last post, I am back from the photo shoot. And no, sadly I didn’t get a chance to take any pictures. It would have been quite disrespectful to the photographer that day, which btw is a fabulous nice man. It was a tiring day because I was there from 8-6. But it was a nice experience for me. It fascinates me how natural those kids were at it. They were working it at age 6. And a offer had been proposed to me to continue working beyond the internship at my job. I’m excited yet sad at the same time. That means, less time to have fun the final year before I would graduate but it also means that I would earn more money and gain more experience.

I’m a bit torn right now. I have no time for anything these days. Designing my own characters, friends, my bf or even hanging out in the city.

Other than that, I was finally able to list my new magnets onto my etsy. yeah that took awhile. I finished designing one more character to the set. Miss Blueberry. It took me a long time to finish all this. I hope to have about 15 or so of these characters.

President’s Day Weekend

Can you believe it? My school is opened and ready for classes on Monday. I really need a break. I want to sit home and relax with the box of chocolates my bf gave me and watch a continuous marathon of Chinese drama’s. In other words, I WANT TO BE A PIG FOR A DAY! haha. Now, I have to cram my homework to hand in Monday since we don’t have a day off. But I really just want to work on my designs for my etsy. GAHHH!!

But, I’m planning to make a new 3 card set. Not sure whether to make postcards or greeting cards. The postcards are not doing so well for me. Haven’t sold much of those. If anyone else has suggestions on what I should do with these designs, please feel free to email me or comment here.

New Work

I’ve been busy lately but I’ve got gears in my head thinking of new products to add to the shop. So far, I’m coming up with new items to add pre existing designs onto as well as coming up with new characters. I don’t do animals much but I’m going to give it a try for Spring. Except for jellyfish and octopus which I love drawing. I’m talking with a new friend about opening up a stand during the weekends in a marketplace in the city so hopefully when the weather gets nicer that will happen and all the New York Folks can come buy and say hi. ^-^

My first post ever. This is a blog to archive the other side of my design. I mean, other than Flickr, I have never been able to explain my work. Now, here’s my chance and the ultra clean layouts of wordpress just makes it oh so easier.
